MEET THE COMMITTEE
Rob
Well I'm Rob, I'm a film maker and I spend most of my time acting or film making because I love it so much and I find it a great way to spend time. I am constantly writing scripts for films that I never make, I mean it's kind of sad but I can never seem to find people to be in them. Not to blow my own trumpet but some of the scripts are actually quite good. Not only do I make films but I'm a member of three drama groups and have been in one of them since I was five, I think that shows I spend so much of my time doing drama and not many other things. This is my second year on the Youth Film Festival committee and I hope to make this year even better than the last. Also not only did I enter the short film competition with one of my films (Nintendo Emergency Service) but I was lucky enough to win the prize for best film under 16 age group.
Where is the most exciting place you’ve seen a film?
The most exciting place I’ve ever seen a film is probably the time I watched a film on a coach going up to BBC in London. Although the film and the quality was pretty bad, it was still pretty cool I mean there was surround sound and everything!

I have always loved film, the reason that I love film so much is that no matter what mood you are in, there is always a film to watch. The way that film has the ability to make people feel emotions that they have never felt before, they are amazing! The ability to make a grown man cry or an old woman to laugh at a perverted joke is inspiring, I have always wanted to become a part of the industry so at college I am currently studying A2 Film Studies, A2 Communication and Culture as well as IT, hoping to learn how to produce special effects. When I found out about the youth film festival last year unfortunately I could not make it but I wanted to be part of it so joined this year and so far I'm loving it.
What is your favourite film?
My favourite film is A Clockwork Orange.

Film has always been a passion of mine. Not only do I love filmmaking but I also love the whole theory behind film and how directors work their magic to give us something truly special on the silver screen. Studying film at A level sparked my passion even more and I hope to continue studying it at University. Being part of SFW: Youth Film Festival 2010 was a fantastic experience, and I'm excited about being a part of it for a second year.
Who is your favourite director?
My new favourite director is Christopher Nolan (Because he is just awesome)

Film is mainly what takes up my life, I'm always watching movies in my spare time. If I ever have a spare couple of hours I always just stick on a movie I have never seen before and enjoy. I love every genre of film, I will watch anything which is why I'm so broke because I go and see everything at the cinema. I don't know what I would do in my spare time without films, I think my life would be empty. I joined the Southampton Film Week: Youth Film Festival committee to try to get others to love film as much as I do, it's my passion and would love for others to share it with me.
Who would you most like to watch a film with? (anyone in the world)
If I could go to the cinema with anyone in the world it would be Robert Downey Jr.

Once I started making films, about 5 years ago at school, I just couldn’t stop. I now produce many films at Barton Peveril College, for my courses where I study Moving Image, Media and Short Film. I currently work with SoCo Music Project filming bands and live music. I enjoy all aspects of filmmaking, whether it’s Directing, Screenwriting or Producing. Telling a story to an audience through a lens is just so captivating and I just know it’s what I want to do. I’m very excited to be a part of SFW: Youth Film Festival, engaging Young People through the medium which I love the most: film and celebrating it with other Young People around the city.

I am a first year Itchen College student, who studies film, media and drama. I got involved with the Youth Film Festival through my Film Studies teacher. I enjoy the process of directing and editing films and wish that more people shared my passion. My favourite genre of film is Musical and my favourite director is Christopher Nolan. I have an eclectic taste in film and look forward to new releases.

Film and filmmaking is one of my main passions, it fits well with my love for theatre and acting. For the past five years I have made and been involved with many film projects, working with great organisations such as City Eye, SoCo Music Project, Rock Challenge UK and The Nuffield Theatre. Whilst at school I was part of the radio and film production company, this started my interest in the industry which has now carried through to college where I’m studying a double Media course alongside Drama & Theatre studies. Another related element is my association with the Nuffield Youth Theatre for the past five years and recently Hampshire Youth Theatre, ideally as a future career I would like to work in front of camera but the interest remains in the making process. To be apart of the Youth Film Festival is a great experience, combining both planning and creative factors to produce something special.
Who would you go to the cinema with and why?
Probably Bill Nighy because he is a true acting legend in my books and a tad wacky or David Tennant because he is true British inspiration for aspiring actors.
