Southampton Film Week’s annual film competition SFW: Shorts is accepting submissions of short films of all styles, genres & techniques from filmmakers of all levels of experience. SFW: Shorts is an open competition where the only limitations are that films must be under 10 minutes in length (including credits) and must have been completed after January 2017.
SFW: Shorts has several awards & prizes to be won including the Michael Fuller Award for Best Film, the Audience Award and the Solent University sponsored Regional Filmmaker Prize - Filmmakers from Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey, West Sussex and Isle of Wight will be in contention for this award.
In 2017, filmmakers Craig McDougall & Emma Lieghio of Broken Physics received the Regional Filmmaker Prize for their documentary ‘Welsh Slate’. Other Filmmakers to receive this award have included animators Andreea Stan for ‘Sunrise Street’ and Sinead Stoddart for ‘Munchies’.
Regional Filmmakers can submit their short films via FilmFreeway for just $10 at any time whilst the competition is open for submissions. This means local filmmakers will not have to worry about the increasing submission fee after the earlybird and regular deadlines pass-by.
Filmmakers are invited to submit their short films to any of the following categories:
Best Artists' Moving Image - for experimental and artist films which can be narrative or non-narrative. Any style of film is accepted including animation, live action, music, dance, abstract etc.
Best Documentary - for non-fiction (factual) short films of any theme or style including animation, live action, talking heads, expository or reflective documentaries.
Best Fiction - for narrative based fictional short films of any theme, style or genre including animation, drama, horror, comedy, thriller, romance, sci-fi etc.
