Regular Deadline Thursday 31st August
Southampton Film Week is open for submissions with the Regular deadline at the end of August. SFW: Shorts accepts short films of all production styles and techniques and, new for 2017, filmmakers can submit their short films to the following categories: Best Artist Film, Best Short Documentary and Best Short Fiction. Films must be no more than 10 minutes long (including credits). Submissions are accepted through FilmFreeway
The Best Short Fiction category is for narrative based fictional short films of any theme, style or genre including animation, drama, horror, comedy, thriller, romance, Sci-Fi etc. Fictional short films have played a huge part in Southampton Film Week’s programme from the annual Short Story Cinema which regularly fills the Sonar Cinema space at Southampton Solent University to our own City Eye Cinema at which we feature City Eye's own selection of shorts. Short Fictions have been successful at SFW: Shorts throughout the competition’s run, including in 2013 when local filmmaker Phil Peel took home The Michael Fuller Award for Best Film with ‘Love’ and local filmmaking duo Edward and Carol Lyons, received the Audience Award for ‘Send in the Clones’. In 2016 animator Sinead Stoddart scooped both the Michael Fuller Award for Best Film and the Regional Filmmaker prize with 'Munchies', whilst Benjamin Sutton's 'BAIT' won the Audience Award.
